Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) is a tackifier. It is a non-toxic and odorless white flocculent powder at room temperature. It has stable performance and is easily soluble in water. Its aqueous solution is a neutral or alkaline transparent viscous liquid, which is soluble. It is insoluble in other water-soluble glues and resins and is insoluble in Chemicalbook solvents such as ethanol. Carboxymethylcellulose is a substituted product of the carboxymethyl group of cellulose. Depending on its molecular weight or degree of substitution, it can be a completely soluble or insoluble polymer. The latter can be used as a weakly acidic cation exchanger to separate neutral or basic proteins, etc.
